Union Culture and Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma has said that promoting Tourism will be an effective tool to contain extremism in the country. In a statement issued, Sharma referred to the announcement made by the Prime Minister in the closing ceremony of Sangai Tourism festival in Imphal recently and said that Tourism Ministry will make special efforts to promote North Eastern States as a major tourism destination of the country.
The Minister said “North East has a great potential to be developed as an important tourist destination due to its varied flora and fauna. Tourism can make significant contribution to the economic development of the region.” The Minister said he will soon visit the North East to discuss various tourism related issues with the concerned States.
