The Israel Ministry of Tourism invited TAFI to look at the possibility of holding the TAFI Convention in the future in Israel. They also wished to showcase the country as the tourist destination apart from the religious destination. The weeklong tour in November included the delegation visiting Jerusalem, Galilee, Caserea, the Dead Sea, Jaffa, & Tel Aviv, as well as site inspections of select hotels. Madah Hassan, Director, India Israel Tourist Office accompanied the delegation.
While addressing the TAFI delegation & Media, Hasan stated, “Israel tourism is an important national resource and a leading area of economic growth. Israel has a unique advantage. It is the Holy Land for three monotheist’s religions but it’s also an attractive destination for tourists who are seeking leisure and fun. Tel Aviv is one of the most innovative cities in the world and one of the beautiful beach cities.
“2012 was a peak year in the number of tourists entering Israel, with 3,520,400 arrivals recorded – 5 per cent more than 2011. Of these, 2,885,900 were tourists (whose stayed at least one night in Israel), an increase of 2 per cent from 2011; 383,405 were one-day visitors, an increase of 26 per cent, and 251,100 were cruise passengers, a 6 per cent increase over 2011.
“2012 was a peak year also in the number of Indian tourists entering Israel, with 43,000 arrivals recorded – 12 per cent more than 2011. That’s equal to the number of Israelies traveling to India. The numbers of the year 2013 showing the same so far compared to recent years. The ministry of tourism hopes to increase existing demand. It will improve tourist site facilities and open up untapped international markets. Emphasis will be put on Israel’s tourism diversity – from sport events like cycling and marathons to bird watching, operas and more.
“Israel, a vibrant, exotic country packed with unique historical and religious sites, rich in cultural and leisure options and boasting a Mediterranean climate year-round, is the perfect place for a vacation.”
An interactive meeting with the Israel Incoming Tour Operator’s Association was organised where offers were made and business deals were struck. The interaction was fruitful & very productive. Israel is looking forward to welcoming tourists in large numbers from India. They are also hoping TAFI decides to hold their Convention in Israel & they will do everything possible to support it.
