Taking its ‘Connecting India’ programme forward to boost connectivity to smaller cities in the country, Air India has introduced a new ATR 72-600 service from New Delhi to Gorakhpur. The inaugural flight AI 9809 took off from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi with 42 passengers on board and landed at Gorakhpur airport at scheduled time. Ashwani Lohani, CMD, cut the ribbon to launch the service.
With the commencement of this service, flyers from Gorakhpur will get connections to several domestic and international destinations, through hub Delhi. Similarly, passengers arriving into Delhi from the Gulf and other international and domestic destinations will also be able to connect to Gorakhpur from Delhi by this flight. Air India is the only airline to operate to Gorakhpur.
AI 9809 operating six days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday is scheduled to depart from Delhi at 1215 hrs and arrive Gorakhpur at 1415 hrs. On the return leg, flight AI 9810 will depart from Gorakhpur at 1445 hrs and reach Delhi at 1645 hrs.
In the recent past, the airline has connected Gwalior, Durgapur and Diu to the major metros.
