Tourism Ireland is working hard to capitalise on G8 Summit to showcase Northern Ireland to potential holidaymakers around the world and to convince them to visit in 2013 and beyond. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, the host city for the Summit, welcomes the world’s leaders on 17th and 18th June.
With hundreds of international media set to descend on Fermanagh to cover the summit, Tourism Ireland has put in place a promotional programme to maximise the tourism potential of the two-day event.
“Hosting the G8 Summit offers an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Fermanagh and Northern Ireland, as well as to promote Northern Ireland as a top destination for hosting high level events and conferences. The international media profile accompanying the G8 is enormous and the ensuing publicity will raise the profile of Northern Ireland to help us achieve our goal of boosting visitor numbers. Tourism Ireland is focused on exploiting the tourism potential offered by the G8 to the fullest extent possible,” Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland said.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland has extended the short stay visa waiver scheme up to October 2016. The visa waiver programme has helped holiday makers visit both ROI and NI will a single UK visa.
Tourism Ireland is also promoting the ‘The Gathering’ this year. The Gathering Ireland 2013 is about inviting anyone with a connection to Ireland to come and visit the country. It’s about asking anyone who has Irish blood, a link to Ireland, or even just a love of the country to join in for a series of amazing and diverse events throughout 2013.
