IndiGo has been conferred upon with the CAPA Global Low Cost Carrier of the Year award at the 2015 CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence, held in Helsinki, a part of CAPA’s 2015 World Aviation Summit. Aditya Ghosh, President IndiGo received the award from Peter Harbison, Executive Chairman CAPA – Centre for Aviation, at a gala dinner hosted by Travelport.
IndiGo was selected by the judging panel to for its ability to thrive in an extremely challenging market. The judges were particularly impressed by the execution of IndiGo’s leadership team.
Congratulating IndiGo, Harbison said, “In less than 10 years IndiGo has grown to become India’s largest domestic airline with a market share of close to 40 per cent. Despite operating in a very challenging market, IndiGo has consistently reported profits for each of the last seven years, including a record profit in FY2015. Over the same period India’s airlines combined have lost in excess of USD10 billion.”
Delighted on receiving the award, Aditya Ghosh, President, IndiGo said “This award holds special significance as it is a recognition of our continued focus towards building a sustainable and growing air transportation network that provides a reliable and consistently high quality offering at lower costs… We still have a long way to go and we feel we are far from perfect but we do try very hard each day to compete with ourselves and make it just a little better, each day. Finally, our sincere thanks to more than one hundred million customers of ours till date and our travel partners without whose, constant encouragement and trust, we would not be able to do what we are doing!”
The judges for the 2015 awards included industry stalwarts such as Dave Barger, former CEO of JetBlue; Rigas Doganis, non-executive Director of EasyJet; Barry Humphreys, former Chairman of British Air Transport Association and Peter Harbison. Brendan Sobie from CAPA and Con Korfiatis from Heidrick & Struggles were the co-moderators.
