Low cost Carrier IndiGo will add 16 aircraft by December 2013. “We have 16 deliveries this calendar year of which 12 are net addition. Our strategy is to focus on domestic market,” Aditya Ghosh, President, IndiGo, said and added IndiGo has started its fifth daily and direct flight between Mumbai and Kolkata, third daily and direct flight between Mumbai and Nagpur and third daily and direct flight between Mumbai and Jaipur. Last year, the Aviation Ministry gave approval to IndiGo to induct 16 aircraft in this calendar year.
Talking about the overseas operation, Ghosh said that IndiGo has deployed 15-16 per cent of its total capacity on international routes. However, he refused to divulge how much the international flights contributed to its revenue.
The airline placed orders for 180 aircraft in 2011 (150 belong to the eco-efficient “neo” series and 30 to standard A-320s), and the planes are expected to be delivered between 2016 and 2025. “IndiGo will continue to expand its network to meet the requirements of both business and leisure travellers wherever they demand it—both in India and abroad,” he added.
IndiGo’s Technical Dispatch Reliability is 99.91 per cent making it the airline with the least number of cancellations in India. With its fleet of 65 new Airbus A320 aircraft, the airline offers 405 daily flights connecting 33 destinations.
