For decades, women have achieved remarkable milestones, shaping not only the landscape of travel and tourism but also leaving indelible marks across economic, political, and social spheres simultaneously. Their contributions resonate as pillars of progress and empowerment. On International Women’s Day, T3 takes the opportunity to draw a spotlight on our women readers from cross-section of the industry. Christine Galle-Luczak, Founder & Managing Director of Heavens Portfolio shares her views with T3.
Presence of a healthy ecosystem for women entrepreneurs in the tourism domain, & Challenges:
As the leader of a global company with a workforce comprised of over 90% women, I understand the importance of my unique position and the responsibility it entails to champion women at every level. At Heavens Portfolio, we encourage our employees to embrace diversity, and innovation, take calculated risks, and challenge conventional norms. In doing so, we foster a safe and nurturing atmosphere where achievements are celebrated and setbacks are viewed as opportunities for growth and learning.
All women need to know we have their backs, and by ‘we’ I mean friends, educators, colleagues, clients, and authorities. The success of women is not only integral to the success of our organization but also globally to the prosperity of our clients, nations, economies, and future generations, and never forget that we all need to inspire diversity and inclusion!
It is said that Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It is actually about changing the way the world perceives that strength. I think one of the biggest hindrances faced by women entrepreneurs is them underestimating their own potential. Unless you have a strong sense of self-belief it is very difficult to have an appetite for risk, a key requirement for any entrepreneur, or the confidence to trust your instincts and assert yourself when needed.
Another pivotal factor that determines success in the long-term is having access to mentors and supporters who can offer guidance and insights to help you grow. I cannot stress enough the importance of identifying, developing and nurturing a strong circle of influence. I have had the good fortune of encountering like-minded individuals whom like me had this willingness to place their heart and soul in their businesses or roles. It is my desire to provide similar opportunities for growth and development to aspiring young women to the best of my capabilities as an entrepreneur.
Message for budding women entrepreneurs
I find that our industry has come a long way and the world of tourism and hospitality has significantly evolved with women enjoying a greater share of voice and representation in the C-suite. But there’s still immense work to do which is why international women’s day is so key as a time to reflect on progress and celebrate accomplishments so they feature prominently on the radar.
My advice for aspiring female entrepreneurs is to not be afraid to speak up be in meetings, negotiations, and professional interactions. Be confident in expressing your ideas and advocating for your career advancement. While it’s important to be self-assured of your abilities, also remain humble and open to feedback. Recognize that there is always room for improvement and be willing to learn from others. Lift up other women in the industry and create a supportive community where everyone can thrive. Celebrate the achievements of fellow female professionals and champion diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
