IWD III: Society Is Moving Towards A More Inclusive Environment, Where There Are Lesser Gender Biases – Zeenat Gangee, Tourism Promotion Manager at MTPA

For decades, women have achieved remarkable milestones, shaping not only the landscape of travel and tourism but also leaving indelible marks across economic, political, and social spheres simultaneously. Their contributions resonate as pillars of progress and empowerment. On International Women’s Day, T3 takes the opportunity to draw a spotlight on our women readers from cross-section of the industry. Zeenat Gangee, Tourism Promotion Manager at Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) shares her views with T3.

Presence of a healthy ecosystem for women entrepreneurs in the tourism domain:

The tourism domain is a demanding sector that is very dynamic and moves fast. The presence of women in tourism is highly impactful these days and as more and more women are motivated to join this industry at various levels, it is highly important that the mechanism for assessment and growth follow. This will ensure equal opportunities and promote gender equality. At the same time, it will also motivate the younger generation to be interested in this sector as they see women achieving recognition and being valued and find opportunities for growth.

As a woman myself, I have participated actively in the tourism road map of my country to bring innovation and excellence in the promotion of my country. I have recently been honored by SATTE as Shakti Women achievers.

Its encouraging to see positive changes taking place and society moving towards a more inclusive environment for everyone. As we are in a modern set up, the hindrances leading to gender biases and societal norms in the past are now less. Women have numerous opportunities to excel. Societal and cultural norms have also evolved and there is a more supportive attitude inclusiveness for women in the industry. There are also well-established frameworks to ensure women are protected and have all the prerequisites for a well-deserved career growth in the industry.

Message for budding women entrepreneurs

The travel and tourism industry is a fantastic world where every day brings a new challenge and my message is to believe in yourself and your abilities. Do not be afraid to pursue your passions and surround yourself with a supportive network, do not hesitate to seek mentorship and always find opportunities for learning and growth. Be the inspiration to others and shine!
