MakeMyTrip (MMT) announced the completion of one million app downloads across mobile platforms – Android, iPhone and Blackberry. With this, MMT become the first first Indian OTA to reach this milestone. The company became the first Indian OTA to launch an iPhone app in May 2012. It launched an app for Android platform in June 2012, while the Blackberry app was launched in 2011.
Talking about this achievement, Amit Somani, Chief Products Officer, MakeMyTrip said, “MakeMyTrip is committed towards making the travel-buying and post-purchase experience seamless and convenient for the customer. With greater smartphone uptake, and more people accessing the Internet on mobile we identified an opportunity to fulfill traveller needs on the mobile platform. We have a fully-enabled WAP site for mobile browsers, but the app experience is definitely more seamless and fluid. The success of our mobile apps is a testimony to the response to initiatives on this platform.”
The MakeMyTrip mobile apps have revolutionized the way Indians make travel-bookings. Using the MakeMyTrip app, customers can book domestic flights, compare fares, manage their trip itinerary, check flight schedules and even find interesting restaurants on their trip. Customers can check the status of a flight with Real Time Flight Schedules.
MakeMyTrip also recently launched last-minute hotel deals where customers can access deep discounts (at least 30%) on same-day Hotel booking. Hotels participating in this offer are displayed as the first five hotels in the search results for same-day check-in. Travellers on the move can access these deals through MakeMyTrip Mobile apps and on the mobile touch-site.
The MMT iPhone app was a huge success in the market and quickly became the most downloaded app on the iTunes India store within a few days of launch. The iPhone App was also ranked as the Top Free App on App Store (India) overall as well as the Travel category. The MMT Android app is rated 4.2 out of 5 in the Google Play store.
