Mauritius has been awarded the Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination, and Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination at the World Travel Awards 2013. Michael Sik Yuen, Minister of Tourism and Leisure, dedicated the prizes to the professionals and the stakeholders of the Mauritian tourism industry. He emphasised the importance to promote the niche segments, namely the honeymoon segment – a value-addition for the destination.
“We can clearly see the positive effects of the diversification of the markets specifically in the honeymoon and sports (kite surf and diving) segments. Mauritius has consolidated its position in the Indian Ocean as the undeniable Leader in terms of travel choice for honeymooners. In France, our island remains the number one choice for honeymooners. Even Air Mauritius has done the country proud by winning the Indian Ocean Leading Airline destination, and has been doing so since 2005. This reinforces our commitment for further joint actions with the national airline,” said Yuen.
World Travel Awards celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year and is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating those brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service.
