Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is organising the 25th Festival on 15 and 16 March 2014. Like the previous editions, this one will also see national and international performers paying tribute to the island of art and heritage – Elephanta. The event will also be graced by the legendary Pundit Hariprasad Chaurasia, who will fill the atmosphere with the melody of his flute at the Gateway of India on 15 March.
On the same day, other performances include that of Prachee Shah – Kathak Performance, Raja Kale – Hindustani Classical Vocal Performance, Kirwani Quartet – Instrumental Fusion performance by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia on flute, George Brooks on Saxophone, Gwyneth Wentink on Harp and Vijay Ghate on Tabla.
The list of artists on Sunday include Tejaswini Lonari – Indian Classical Dance Performance, Kavita Seth – Sufi Vocal, Anu Sinha – Kathak and Nishat Khan – Sitar Instrumental.
Spread out over these days, there would be various activities to celebrate the Festival at Elephanta caves. MTDC, in association with Sir JJ School of Art, is conducting a painting and sculpture competition at Elephant Island on 15 and 16 March. Also, a Heritage Walk by Dr. Suraj Pandit would be organised for the heritage enthusiasts.
