Mugdha Sinha appointed as new DG of Tourism

Sinha has previously worked in the Ministries of Textiles, Industry and Commerce both at the Centre and in Rajasthan, her cadre state. She replaces Manisha Saxena (IAS: 1996: AGMUT).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has announced a significant reshuffle of IAS officers, with fourteen officers receiving new assignments at the Additional Secretary level.

This also includes Mugdha Sinha (IAS: 1999: RJ) being appointed as the new Director General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism, replacing Manisha Saxena (IAS: 1996: AGMUT). Previously, Saxena served as the Director General of Tourism and has now been appointed as Additional Secretary, Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. Her new role was facilitated by the temporary upgrading of a vacant post of DS/Director in the Department, as per an official circular.

Saxena brings a wealth of experience, having served in the Government of Mizoram as Principal Secretary Tourism and Secretary (Tourism). An alumnus of Lady Shriram College for Women in Delhi, she also held the position of Principal Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi, up till July 2022. During her previous role in the ministry, she has supervised various projects and has been the representing face of MoT at various industry and national level events.

On other hand, Sinha, steps into her new role at the Ministry of Tourism with over twenty-five years of extensive experience in governance, policy making, and international trade negotiations. She has previously worked in the Ministries of Textiles, Industry and Commerce both at the Centre and in Rajasthan, her cadre state. Sinha’s experience also spans roles in Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, and Science and Technology. Recently, she had also served as the joint secretary in the Ministry of Culture.
