Air India organizes ‘Girls in Aviation Day’

Air India along with Women in Aviation (WAI) organized a program”Girls in Aviation Day” on 24 September 2016 at the Air India Regional Training Centre in Mumbai to showcase the aviation and aerospace domains to girls in the age group of 13 to 18 years. Three sessions on airline, engineering and airport-related career options were taken up for presentation by a team of women aviation professionals from across the various departments. The program was attended by girl students from various schools and NGOs.

WAI is an international, professional, non-profit organization dedicated to the career advancement of women in the field of aviation and related interests.

Mukesh Bhatia, Regional Director (Western Region), Air India was the chief guest at the function. Speaking on the occasion, he said that aviation is a challenging sector for young women armed with proper skills training and education, who are interested in pursuing a career in this field. Air India has the biggest women workforce of about 3800 women employees including women pilots, cabin crew, engineers, technicians, doctors, security personnel, duty managers, and executives in various fields, on its rolls. Besides, women have also been given opportunities to grow and excel in all spheres.

He hoped that the students would use the knowledge imparted in the various sessions to learn as much as they can and take informed decisions on their career choice in different areas of aviation. “Air India has always taken the lead to participate in various such CSR initiatives that would enable and encourage more young people to come forward and be a part of the nation building exercise and keep the flag flying high”, he said. Members from the WAI also highlighted their contribution in the exercise at the international level and promised all help and guidance.
