On their maiden visit to the city, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall paid tribute to the bravery of staff at Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace hotel on Saturday, ahead of Commonwealth summit in Sri Lanka.
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the hotel on Saturday to lay a wreath in memory of the 30 guests and staff who were killed at the hotel when 10 terrorist commandos came ashore in a boat on November 26, 2008.
After laying a floral wreath and bowing his head in silence, the Prince, accompanied by the Duchess, met waiters, bell boys, telephone operators, chefs and managers who were working that night when the gunmen entered the hotel.
On a hectic day, Prince Charles met senior Indian corporate heads at a roundtable discussion on corporate social responsibility. Among those present were Piramal Group’s chief Swati Piramal, ICICI Bank’s Chanda Kochhar and Mahindra & Mahindra’s Anand Mahindra.
