SEYCHELLES RECORDS 120% GROWTH FROM INDIA

Seychelles islands saw an increase of 120 per cent increase in tourist arrivals from India in the first quarter of 2015 compared to first quarter of 2014.

Commenting on this achievement Sherin Naiken, CEO, Seychelles Tourism Board said, “2015 has got off to a great start in terms of the growth in tourists numbers from India. This increases our confidence in the India market. The country has responded really well to our efforts and we are committed to developing it into a key emerging source market. Huge credit goes to the private sector of both the countries and we are grateful for their support and hard work.”

Lubaina Sheerazi, COO- Blue Square Consultants, Seychelles Tourist Office – India said, “120 per cent increase is a significant achievement and we expect the trend to continue. We have been very focused in our approach while promoting the destination targeting only the well-educated, well-travelled, high income customer segments. Traditionally Seychelles has been considered only as a honeymoon destination. But Seychelles offers much more to the modern traveller beyond just sun, sand and. And with the commencement of direct flights from December 2014 Seychelles also is an ideal option for short-trip/long weekend holidays.”

2015 onwards the India office is exploring new segments to tap tourists including diving, eco-tourism, destination wedding, small groups and families. Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai will continue to be the main markets. However, the office will also take initial steps in tapping cash rich cities like Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Nagpur, Raipur, Indore and Jaipur.
