South African Airways (SAA) has introduced the state-of-the-art Airbus A340-300, a bigger gauge aircraft on the Mumbai route. Due to planned global changes in the wide-body fleet of SAA, the A340-300 will replace the currently operated Airbus A330-200 on the route from today. This will increase the passenger capacity to 253 per aircraft from the current capacity of 222. SAA now flies six days a week between Johannesburg and Mumbai as against seven-days-a-week schedule while maintaining the seat capacity with the bigger gauge aircraft.
“India is an important market for us and by deploying a bigger aircraft we’ll be able to offer additional seats to the growing number of passengers from the country. The only carrier to offer a direct flight between Mumbai and Johannesburg, SAA is known for its highly rated in-flight service and comfort. We are sure the wide-body A340-300 will enhance the travel experience of our passengers,” said Sajid Khan, Country Manager – India, SAA.
