Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), New Delhi organised the famous Thai festival of Loi Krathong in New Delhi last week at the Dusit Deverana Hotel. Loi Krathong is a festival of lights celebrated throughout the country. It is the time of year when the waters all across come alive with candlelight. Loi means ‘to float’, while krathong refers to a lotus-shaped container that floats on water. Thais celebrate this festival to pay homage to the Goddess of Water. Couples come together to float their krathongs and ask for forgiveness for polluting waters and pray for good luck and good health.
The evening was inaugurated by a beautiful cultural performance put together by a team of dancers and musicians flown in from Thailand. Chalit Manityakul, Thailand’s Ambassador congratulated Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi for organising such an event. He said, “It gives us great joy to celebrate the Loi Krathong festival in this city and give the people a glimpse of Thai culture with all its simplicity and panache. We would also like to thank our partners, Finlandia and Dusit Deverana Hotel for their support in making this a successful event.”
The guest list included several dignitaries and socialites including Ankur and Smriti Bhatia of the Bird Group, Vikram Madhok of Abercrombie & Kent, Ranjeeta Kant, Diplomats and other noted faces from the travel and hospitality Industry.
