Travel, tourism deal activity down by 5.9% YoY during Jan-Nov 2024: GlobalData

While North America, Middle East and Africa and South and Central America registered double-digit declines, Asia-Pacific experienced single-digit decline. Meanwhile, Europe saw double-digit growth in deal volume.

A total of 649 deals (mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity and venture financing) were announced in the travel and tourism sector during January-November 2024, which represents a year-on-year (YoY) decline of 5.9% compared to the 690 deals announced during the same period in 2023, reveals GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s Deals Database analysis further indicates that compared to the January-November 2023, the M&A and venture financing deal volumes decreased by 0.8% and 25.3%, respectively, during the January-November 2024. Meanwhile, private equity deals’ volume experienced a 27.3% YoY increase during the same timeframe.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, commented, “The travel and tourism sector deal activity showcased a mixed trend across the different deal types during the specified timeframe. And similarly, the trend across different regions and key markets remained a mixed bag during the review period.”

While North America, Middle East and Africa and South and Central America registered double-digit declines, Asia-Pacific experienced single-digit decline. Meanwhile, Europe saw double-digit growth in deal volume.

North America, Middle East and Africa, South and Central America and Asia-Pacific regions witnessed respective deal volume fall by 31%, 18.2%, 20% and 2.3%, respectively, during January-November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, Europe saw a 15.9% improvement in deal volume during the review period.

The US, China, South Korea, and France also witnessed decline in deal volume by 30.2%, 25.6%, 8.7%, and 25%, respectively, during January-November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, the UK, India and Japan witnessed improvement in deal volume by 10%, 28.9% and 44.8%, respectively.
