The 46th World Heritage Committee meeting, a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) event at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay on 21 July.
India is hosting the World Heritage Committee meeting for the first time, which will run from July 21 to 31. More than 2,500 representatives from over 150 countries will participate in the meeting, where they will explore the rich spiritual, artistic, and cultural heritage of India and Uttar Pradesh. The UNESCO heritage committee, which meets once a year, consists of representatives from 21 member states and plays an important role in adding new sites to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has established its pavilion at the 46th World Heritage Committee meeting at Bharat Mandapam, highlighting the state’s heritage sites. The pavilion showcases tourist destinations including the Buddhist circuit, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and Bundelkhand region, as well as the art and handicrafts of the state.
Uttar Pradesh is renowned worldwide for its rich culture and heritage. It is home to three World Heritage Sites: Fatehpur Sikri, the Taj Mahal, and Agra Fort. The region is deeply rooted in religion and spirituality. With immense tourism potential, the state boasts 12 tourism circuits for visitors to explore according to their preferences. The art, culture, and cuisine of Uttar Pradesh are also unparalleled. Efforts are being made to introduce these unique aspects of the state to delegates from around the world.
Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh stated, “Uttar Pradesh Tourism is not only participating in the World Heritage Committee meeting but is also dedicated to showcasing the state’s rich heritage sites that could be included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The goal is to inspire guests and tourists to visit and explore the region’s heritage sites. This meeting is expected to be a milestone in the tourism development of Uttar Pradesh.”
