End of an Era: Vistara to take final flight on Nov 11 before merger with Air India

The existing bookings for travel on or after November 12, 2024, on Vistara, will be seamlessly transferred to Air India. Affected customers will receive detailed communication via email and SMS in the coming days, outlining the steps for the transition.

Vistara has officially announced its merger with Air India along with its farewell flight details, marking a significant milestone in the Indian aviation sector. In line with this merger, Vistara has mentioned that it will cease ticket sales across all direct and indirect channels starting September 3, 2024, for travel beyond November 11, 2024, as per an official statement.

Post-merger, all flights will be operated by Air India, and passengers are encouraged to book their journeys through Air India’s website or mobile app, the statement mentioned.

This merger, a strategic move under the stewardship of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, aims to consolidate the strengths of both airlines, offering customers an enhanced flying experience backed by global standards.

Vistara also assures its customers those existing bookings for travel on or after November 12, 2024, will be seamlessly transferred to Air India. Affected customers will receive detailed communication via email and SMS in the coming days, outlining the steps for the transition.

“We are delighted to join wings with Air India to help you travel the world,” Vistara stated. “Backed by the reliability and trust of Tata Sons, and the renowned world-class service standards of Singapore Airlines and Star Alliance, we are excited to welcome you to a whole new era,” the statement read.

The merger is expected to leverage the strengths of both airlines, combining Vistara’s premium service with Air India’s extensive network, thereby setting new benchmarks in the industry. Additionally, personal data held by Vistara will be securely transferred to Air India, maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality. The airline said that the customers who wish to opt-out of this data transfer can do so via the provided channels.

Both companies received the CAR (Civil Aviation Requirement) 145 approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on August 10, allowing them to integrate their aircraft line maintenance operations, according to an official release.
