Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has witnessed 11.8 per cent growth in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in August 2016 over the same period in 2015. Bangladesh accounts for the highest share of tourist arrivals followed by USA and UK in August 2016. The total Foreign Exchange earned through tourism in August 2016 is Rs.12, 903 crore.
FTAs during the Month of August, 2016 were 6.70 lakh as compared to FTAs of 5.99 lakh during the month of August, 2015 and 5.76 lakh in August, 2014. There has been a growth of 11.8 per cent in August, 2016 over August, 2015. FTAs during the period January- August, 2016 were 55.92 lakh with a growth of 10.2 per cent as compared to the FTAs of 50.73 lakh with a growth of 4.6 per cent in January- August, 2015 over January- August, 2014.
The Percentage share of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during August, 2016 among the top 15 source countries was highest from Bangladesh (16.61 per cent) followed by USA (12.59 per cent), UK (10.57 per cent), Sri Lanka (5.92 per cent), Malaysia (3.41 per cent), China (2.77 per cent), Japan (2.75 per cent), Canada (2.63 per cent), Germany (2.57 per cent),France (2.54 per cent),Australia (2.40 per cent), Oman (2.19 per cent), Nepal (1.95 per cent), Singapore (1.91 per cent) and UAE (1.68 per cent).
The Percentage share of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during August 2016 among the top 15 ports was highest at Delhi Airport (28.38 per cent) followed by Mumbai Airport (17.32 per cent), Chennai Airport (10.17 per cent), Haridaspur Land check post (9.10 per cent), Bengaluru Airport (6.83 per cent), Cochin Airport (5.08 per cent), Hyderabad Airport (3.98 per cent),Kolkata Airport (3.93 per cent Gede Rail (2.05 per cent), Trivandrum Airport (1.72 per cent), Ahmadabad Airport (1.68 per cent),Tiruchirapalli Airport (1.64 per cent), Ghojadanga land check post (1.07 per cent Amritsar (1.05 per cent) and Attari-Wagh (1.05 per cent).
