MTDC set to organise 29th edition of Elephanta Festival

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is organising the 29th edition of Elephanta Festival, which will be held on January 27-28, 2018 at the world-famous Elephanta Caves, the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Elephanta Festival commenced in the year 1989 and is one of the most prominent festivals in the city which showcases different forms of dance, music and art. 

The festival emphasises on the rich heritage of Elephanta Caves and attracts visitors from around the state. It aims to conserve the culture through various art forms and create an outstanding experience for all the visitors. This year the festival will be arranging different activities such as, TreasureHunt@Elephanta, Sculpture @Elephanta, Paint@Elephanta

Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra said, “Elephanta Festival is a celebration of our rich heritage through the eyes of eminent artists from different backgrounds. The 29th edition will also emphasise on our historical inheritance and portray the local traditions. I am confident that this festival will not only offer a sight of quality performance and entertainment to the visitors, but will also pave the path for increasing the visitors’ footfall every year in the state.”

Jaykumar Rawal, Minister of Tourism & (EGS), Government of Maharashtra said, “I am happy to observe that the ideas and values of our ancestors have been conveyed over the years through these art forms. The artists of each group will interpret the different art forms and will also revive its eternal significance. The Elephanta Festival is the replication of the Maharashtrian culture, with vibrant colours, customs and traditions which depict the diversity of state’s rich culture and legacy.”
