Abacus India made a different connection with the travel agents attending SATTE 2015. The technology company offered trade delegates SIM cards to share with their customers, pre-loaded with talk-time credits for any destination.
“For travel agents, it is great to be able to add extra value with a service like this. They will know when to offer the pre-paid SIM, maybe to a client working overseas for a period of time or to a guest in town. The agency can issue their e-tickets and now include a card to make calls,” said Jeet Sawhney, MD, Abacus India.
Travel agents attending SATTE were asked to collect the Abacus UniConnect coupon from the technology company’s booth. Agents give selected travellers the Abacus UniConnectvoucher. At any UniConnectcounter within India’s gateway airports, including Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, Calicut, Bengaluru and Chennai, they can exchange it for a pre-paid local SIM for their chosen destination. Consuming all the credit in free calls, they can then top up as needed, for extended use.
Abacus even has an SMS service linked to the traveller’s PNR, reminding them to pick up their free UniConnect SIM before they fly. B2B2C mobile applications are a theme for Abacus at SATTE this year, with Abacus TripCase Connectsoft-launching at the show, also as part of a special promotion. “It’s time we found ways to make mobile travel more engaging. We plan to demonstrate the best wireless ideas and applications over the coming days,” Sawhney added.
