Airbnb, one of the world’s leading community-driven hospitality companies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Gujarat. Under the MoU, the Government of Gujarat and Airbnb will collaborate to set up a mutual and close system of cooperation based on the respective expertise of the two entities, in order to boost tourism and create positive travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors in Gujarat.
Amanpreet Bajaj, Country Manager – Airbnb India said, “The state of Gujarat is a vibrant attraction to tourists in India and abroad, enriched with its cultural nuances as well as the hospitality of its local populace. With the beauty of the untouched Rann of Kutch, a rich textile and handicraft heritage, and the historic Sabarmati Ashram, Gujarat has something unique to offer to travellers with varied preferences. Airbnb witnessed phenomenal growth in the state in 2015. We are delighted to partner with the Government of Gujarat to bring homestays and travel options in the state onto an international platform. With the state government’s focus on boosting resources for tourism, this is the right time for Airbnb to contribute to building tourism and foster entrepreneurship opportunities.”
Airbnb and the Government of Gujarat will come together to boost tourism in Gujarat by utilising Airbnb’s global lodging platform. Airbnb would assist homestays across Gujarat by bringing them onto its global platform. Airbnb would hold educational and sensitisation sessions on ‘hosting standards and best practices’ for current or potential hosts of homestay facilities and unique properties in Gujarat. Airbnb would also help provide information to its users on less-explored but high potential destinations in Gujarat to promote tourism to these destinations
“We welcome the spirit and the intent of Airbnb to boost Tourism in the state of Gujarat and promote local enterprise and localised cultural experiences in the state. Gujarat has a rich history of culture and heritage and we see this partnership as an opportunity to enable hosts in the state to showcase their hospitality to tourists,” said Spokesperson, Gujarat Government.
