Intergenerational travel is an opportunity to nurture family bonds and create memories that can last a lifetime. For Indian families, clean and safe accommodations are paramount (34%) ensuring everyone can relax and unwind. Trips need to be suitable for everyone (28%), ensuring grandparents and children alike enjoy themselves. Indians are financially savvy of their travel expenses and prioritise vacations that are value-for-money (28%). From adventure activities to relaxing spas, a variety of activities is crucial for different ages (24%) along with food & restaurant options nearby (24%) that cater to every palette.

The top considerations for Indians while choosing a destination for intergenerational travel include safety and security (44%), affordable pricing and value for money (34%), and family-friendly attractions and activities (31%). Availability of family-friendly accommodations and accessibility for all age groups are important for 30% of families each. Additionally, accessibility for all age groups is a consideration for 26% of Indian families.

Some of the top trending destinations for intergenerational travel range from Ayodhya’s spiritual bliss to Bali’s vibrant beach culture, offering a blend of cultural allure, diverse activities, and family-friendly options. According to Booking.com, these destinations in the APAC region have captured the interest of families, combining both relaxation and adventure to create memorable experiences for travelers of all ages. Whether it’s the peaceful spirituality of Ayodhya or the lively atmosphere of Bali’s beaches, these destinations provide something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

The top destinations include Tokyo, Japan; Gold Coast, Australia; Singapore; Seminyak, Bali; Osaka, Japan; London, United Kingdom; Kuta, Bali; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Paris, France; and Nusa Dua, Bali.

Additionally, the trending destinations include Urayasu, Japan; Ayodhya, India; Uluwatu, Bali; Murcia, Spain; Leatherhead, United Kingdom; Baku, Azerbaijan; Charlotte, USA; Nago-Torbole, Italy; Ulverston, United Kingdom; and Haywards Heath, United Kingdom.

Accommodation choices are as varied as the families themselves. Hotels remain the go-to for 57% of Indian families, with resorts following as the preferred option for 43%. A growing trend is emerging towards unique stays—around 20% of Indian families are drawn to culturally immersive stays such as ryokans, hanoks, homesteads, treehouses, and longhouses, adding a touch of local flavour and adventure to their trips. Families are also seeking to stay at rented cottage homes (23%), beach homes (21%), and with family and friends (34%).

Top considerations for Indians while choosing accommodations during intergenerational travel include budget and affordable pricing (41%), flexible cancellation policies (31%), and on-site restaurants catering to all ages (31%). The size of the room and on-site medical/healthcare services are also important factors for 30% of families each. Additionally, accessible rooms for differently abled family members are a consideration for 28% of Indian families.

To ensure a worry-free trip, Indians prioritise safety and security (44%) while selecting a destination along with the ability to provide value for money (33%) that doesn’t strain their budgets. In APAC, some destinations are emerging as clear favourites among families for their blend of cultural allure, diverse activities and family-friendly amenities.
