Cherai is just 30 kms from Kochi, the business capital of Kerala. It is on the northern end of Vypin Island and has a 10 kms long golden clean beach on one side and serene backwaters on the other. This shallow beach is ideal for swimming and Dolphin sightings. What makes Cherai Beach distinct from other beach hideaways is its unique ambience. A quiet trip through the winding scenic backwaters and the overhanging branches of coconut trees create an unforgettable symphony of green. A tranquil lake is at a stone’s throw from the beach and is a unique place where the sea and the backwaters are divided by a small strip of land. There are many options for travellers to stay ranging from home stays to premium hotels. One of the oldest resorts here is the Cherai Beach Resort. The property has been landscaped with numerous canals, lagoons and single arch bridges meandering in and around the 66 villas. The nearest airport to Cherai Beach is Cochin Internat ional Airport at Nedumbassery, 23km and Aluva is the closest Rail station, 23 Km. By road, Cherai is just 15 minutes drive from North Paravur (5km) and can be approached from Ernakulam either by taking a ferry to Vypeen Island which is 22km away (45 minutes by bus) from Cherai or taking the longer road route via Edappally to North Paravur and from there to Cherai, a distance of about 25km. The new Goshree Bridge from Ernakulam that stretches out across the backwaters connecting the islands of Bolghatty, Mulavukadu, Vallarpadam and Vypeen make tourist access to this beach much easier.
