As part of a reshuffle in portfolios, Ghulam Ahmad Mir has been appointed as the new Tourism Minister of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). Mir, who is elected from Doru constituency, represents the Indian National Congress party.
In addition, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has taken over as the Minister of State (MoS) with Independent Charge (I/C) for Tourism, along with other portfolios namely Industries & Commerce and Minister of State for Home, R B and Mechanical Engineering, Housing & Urban Development and Culture, in the J&K government. Kichloo, who is elected from Kishtwar constituency, is representing J&K National Conference party.
“Tourism is vital for economic boost of Jammu and Kashmir state. There is a need to create modern tourist facilities. The authorities of tourism department should ensure time bound completion of ongoing tourism infrastructure for convenience of visiting tourists,” Mir said after meeting the tourism department officials, legislators and representatives of tour and travel operators to apprise them about the need for tourism promotion in the state.
Nawang Rigzin Jora, former Tourism Minister of the state, has been assigned Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies.
