Girnar ropeway crosses 1 lakh visitor landmark

The Girnar ropeway has achieved the landmark of ferrying 1 lakh visitors in just six weeks, Usha Breco, the developer of the ropeway said recently. The ropeway company also announced special fares for Covid-19 warriors and defence personnel in recognition of their service to the nation and to mark the milestone.

The Girnar ropeway, the world’s longest to a temple, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 24, and has received very good response from visitors.

Deepak Kaplish, Regional Head-West, Usha Breco, said, “We are delighted that we have achieved another milestone in our success story by successfully ferrying one lakh guests from across Gujarat and India in the Girnar ropeway in a short span of time since its inauguration.”

Kaplish said the company extends its gratitude to all stakeholders for their support in making Girnar ropeway a reality. “With the Covid-19 situation improving and travel picking up, we look forward to serving more guests and achieving greater milestones in the future,” he added.

Under the special schemes, doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, police, ASHA workers, medical students engaged in Covid-19 work, media persons, staff of essential services such as power, gas, telecom, defence personnel, and their family and friends can avail of the two-way ropeway ride at 40 per cent discount to the regular fare. The special offer will be in force till December 31.

Usha Breco has put in place elaborate measures and protocols to protect passengers and employees from the Coronavirus. Measures include social distancing, mandatory use of masks by employees, thermal screening at entry gate, use of masks by visitors, allowing only four passengers in each cabin at a time, and regular sanitisation of cabins are being strictly followed.

Anurag Savarkar, visitor from Amravati in Maharashtra, said, “All Covid-19 norms and social distancing norms are being followed precisely by the ropeway operators. Regular sanitisation is being conducted. The view from the ropeway was breathtaking.”
