The five-month “Great Outdoors Hong Kong” campaign, organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), kicked off earlier this month and is all set to run through March 2017. This year, the HKTB will organise 30 guided tours, showcasing nine internationally recognised hiking and cycling trails in Hong Kong to encourage tourists to explore the city’s best nature escapes in the company of local experts.
Dr Peter Lam, Chairman, HKTB said, “Behind Hong Kong’s spectacular metropolitan landscape is a vast selection of scenic, easily accessible hiking and cycling trails that many tourists will find appealing. That’s why this year’s “Great Outdoors Hong Kong” focuses on showcasing nine award-winning or internationally recognised trails to the world. We are launching the outdoor-themed tours in collaboration with airlines and our travel trade partners in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan to attract more tourists interested in a taste of the city’s green side. The HKTB is also encouraging visiting overseas media to venture out to our natural destinations in the hope that they will include these beautiful features of Hong Kong in their coverage to raise overseas travellers’ awareness of this facet of Hong Kong.”
The HKTB has published a brand-new Great Outdoors Hong Kong guidebook for 2016/17. In addition to the hiking and cycling trails covered here, it features Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark and a variety of guided tours organised by different trade partners and other organisations. The guidebook is available free of charge during the campaign at major ports of entry, HKTB Visitor Centres, and various hotels. An electronic version can also be viewed or downloaded from the HKTB website.
