Having achieved turnaround in its financial performance in last couple of years, India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) recently achieved various accolades during the financial year 2012 – 2013. The outstanding performance of the ITDC brought a series of accolades to the PSU.
ITDC recently bagged the National Tourism Awards 2011-12 for its significant contribution towards the promotion and development of India’s tourism industry over the last one year. While The Ashok, New Delhi has been awarded as the ‘Best Hotel Based Meeting Venue’ in the National Tourism Awards 2011 – 2012, ITDC’s Corporate Executive Chef Sireesh Saxena has been awarded in the Category – ‘Best Chef’ (4 to 5 Star Deluxe, Heritage Grand and Classic Hotels).
The awards were conferred by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of K. Chiranjeevi, Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge) and various noted personalities from Indian tourism industry.
ITDC has been a regular recipient of National Tourism Awards. In 2009-2010, The Ashok, New Delhi had won the National Tourism Awards in the category of ‘Best Convention Centre’. In 2010-2011, National Tourism Awards on Hospitality Education was conferred to the Corporation for ‘Excellence in Hospitality Education’.
Meanwhile, Lalit K Panwar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, ITDC, was conferred with the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) International Award under the category ‘ITDC – Best Hotel Chain for Value for Money’ at the recently concluded ITB Berlin 2013.
Recent significant initiatives undertaken by the ITDC include upgradation of hotels, mounting of sound and light shows in the country, entering into non-hotel sectors like hospitality education, international tourism and travel related events management and providing job skills and employment opportunities to the country’s unemployed youth as well as signing MoUs targeted towards tourism promotion as well as sourcing in additional business, forward the determination to perform even better in the coming years.
