Lufthansa announced the global roll-out of Lufthansa premium economy class nine days earlier than planned. The new travel class will be available from November 22 for the first time on all routes flown by a Boeing 747-8 including Bangalore, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Peking, Sao Paolo, Seoul, Tokyo-Haneda and Washington D.C.
Bangalore becomes the first city in India to welcome Lufthansa’s new premium economy offering. Termed as the most important part of the biggest product upgrade in Lufthansa’s history, the new premium economy class comes with great on-board as well as on-ground benefits including 50 per cent extra legroom space as compared to the Economy class.
Commenting on the development, Wolfgang Will, Director, South Asia, Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, said: “The roll-out of the new travel class in India (Bangalore) at the same time as the global launch of the product clearly demonstrates the importance of India as a market for Lufthansa and underlines our commitment to provide Indian customers with the best Lufthansa experience worldwide. The new premium economy offering will be ideal for leisure travelers with higher budget and for business travelers with constrained budgets. Currently, the new premium economy is available on the Frankfurt – Bangalore route on the B747-8 aircraft and we expect it to be available on all long haul routes in India in 2015.”
The free baggage allowance is double of what is allowed for a passenger traveling in the economy class. They will also have special benefits on board such as being greeted with a welcome drink and at their seat in the cabin will be an upmarket amenity kit with useful accessories, a water bottle and a power socket. Meals will be presented in menus and served on china tableware. In addition, an extensive inflight entertainment program for passengers to view on a large monitor fitted on the backrest of the seat in front.
