The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) is looking back at the Fiscal Year 2014-15 with high regard as its success in hosting 565 events translated to immense value in economic benefit to Toronto and Ontario. A record US$ 537 million was generated in spending to the community, and over 5,100 jobs in the sector were sustained from all conventions held at the MTCC.
The economic gains secured for the city was a direct result of MTCC’s success throughout the year. This is a record year for the MTCC, with the highest economic impact benefits. It was an equally record year for MTCC revenues which totaled $63.7 million. In addition, the Centre generated over US$ 153 million in federal, provincial, and municipal taxes from all conventions. The 565 events held in the fiscal year included conventions, corporate meetings, galas, theatre events, trade and consumer shows.
“A world-class destination like Toronto deserves a world-class trade and convention centre and I’m proud to have the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, a provincial facility, here in our city. Year after year, the MTCC continues to help grow our economy, create jobs and attract visitors and businesses to our province. 2014 was no exception and I commend the MTCC on another record year,” said Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
Walter Oster, Chair, MTCC Board of Directors commented that, historically, the mandate has been to help strengthen the local economy and position Toronto as a world class destination. “With a record year behind us, we are motivated to stay the course and continue to bring that same success to the city and the Centre.”
“With every successful event hosted in our Centre, Toronto’s international standing as a world-class metropolis is strengthened. We look forward to fulfilling this mandate for years to come,” said Barry Smith, President, MTCC.
