Gurjeet S. Sekhon, Chairman, TAAI Punjab Chapter
Initiatives
We have tried to engage Punjab Government by organizing interactions with Cabinet Minister and Visa Facilitation Service to address the issue of our fraternity. TAAI Punjab Chapter’s members are aggrieved with the licensing and renewal system, where different services are charged separately. We are working closely with VFS to smoothen the visa application process for the customers. In addition, we regularly organize meetings with airlines and tourism boards.
Challenges
Punjab Government is not addressing the problems the trade faces due to unauthorized and unregistered travel agents who bring a bad name to the entire fraternity by exploiting innocent, ignorant customers, primarily in rural Punjab. These include students who are trying to apply for student visas abroad.
The increase of TCS on foreign holidays from 5% to 20% is causing immense heartburn among travellers and travel agents. Travellers don’t want to pay an additional amount and are not enthused by the idea of a refund in due course. They are pushing travel agents to accept cash etc. As a result genuine agents are losing business to unscrupulous people who are making false assurances to unsuspecting travellers.
