Tourism Australia recorded 16,300 arrivals during the month of November 2013, an increase of 18.3 per cent over 2012 . Tourist arrivals during the period September 2013 to November 2013, since the commencement of Air India’s direct flights in to Australia, have increased at an average of 21 per cent, according to the Tourism Board’s fact sheet.
There were 173,500 arrivals for the year ended November 2013, an increase of 13.4 per cent, relative to the same period previous year. Arrivals during this period were driven by leisure segment, which have increased by 18.3 per cent.
For 12 months ending September 2013, Indian visitors contributed A$794 million to Australia’s total expenditure, an increase of 11 per cent over previous year. Spend by leisure travellers recorded an increase of 23 per cent during this period.
