Uttar Pradesh gears for Mahakumbh 2025

From January 13 to February 26, Prayagraj will serve as a hub for artists from across the country, offering visitors a chance to witness performances by leading cultural figures. Uttar Pradesh’s Minister for Tourism and Culture, Jaiveer Singh, reviewed the preparations of Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj.

Following an on-site inspection of the arrangements in Prayagraj, Jaiveer addressed a press conference at the Circuit House. He emphasized that the Mahakumbh is a symbol of India’s enduring faith and spiritual energy. “Our government is committed to ensuring that every devotee leaves Mahakumbh with a memorable and blissful experience”, he said.

Jaiveer Singh assured that all necessary measures have been implemented to ensure devotees face no difficulties in booking accommodation or travel within the Kumbh region. “We have reviewed central and state government initiatives, and preparations are progressing as envisioned. The positivity of our efforts is evident,” he said. The minister highlighted plans for cultural displays, revealing that 20 mini-stages across Prayagraj will host regional artists showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s vibrant folk arts for 45 days. Additionally, he announced plans for a grand drone and laser show, for which the dated will be finalized soon.

The Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) has also introduced various tour packages for travellers.

Promoting the arrival of more pilgrims and visitors, central leaders, state governors, chief ministers, and ambassadors from various countries, have been invited to participate at this monumental event. A five-acre UP State Pavilion has been set up, showcasing 12 tourism circuits using 3D technology, highlighting destinations like Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, Prayagraj, Kushinagar, Sarnath, and Naimisharanya.

At the press conference Special Secretary for Tourism, Eesha Priya, provided detailed insights into the Mahakumbh preparations. She revealed the launch of a dedicated website and app to ensure access to all necessary information. “Over 990 tourist guides, 1,500 vendors, 1,000 taxi and auto drivers, and 600 boatmen have undergone specialized training, including storytelling techniques, to share the rich history and significance of the Mahakumbh with visitors.”

Free guidebooks in multiple Indian languages will be distributed at tourism centres. Additionally, the app will offer information about nearby tourist attractions, while “ODOP” (One District, One Product) stalls and rural tourism initiatives will also be promoted.

UPSTDC Managing Director, Sanya Chhabra, outlined the corporation’s preparations, including various tour packages available on the official website. Pilgrims can book online guides or access facilities at the fair centre.

The Ministry of Culture has set up an Art Village, while luxury accommodations in the tent city are fully equipped with amenities. The UPSTDC MD also highlighted the transportation arrangements for pilgrims arriving by rail, air, or road network along with facilities like yoga and meditation centres. For those seeking adventure, a helicopter joyride offering a 7-8 minute aerial view of the Mahakumbh will be available for ₹3,000.
