Gajendra Singh Shekhawat assumed his new role as Union Minister of Tourism yesterday, committing to significantly enhancing Bharat’s tourism potential.
While he was welcomed by Tourism Secretary V. Vidyavathi and other senior officials at the Ministry of Tourism, Shekhawat, in his briefings, was thoroughly updated on the ministry’s ongoing schemes and initiatives aimed at promoting tourism. Expressing his gratitude, Shekhawat emphasised the strategic importance of globally showcasing Bharat. “As PM Narendra Modi has emphasised through his various visits and words about our tourism potential, we will work towards enhancing the same, highlighting our various natural and cultural heritage sites from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” Shekhawat stated.
Shekhawat, a seasoned politician from Rajasthan, previously served as Union Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Jal Shakti and has been a member of parliament (Lok Sabha) representing the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In addition to his new role in tourism, Shekhawat has also been entrusted with the Ministry of Culture, succeeding G Kishan Reddy in these pivotal positions.
Also, assuming the charge at the culture ministry yesterday, Shekhawat stated that from India to Bharat, we have been taking giant steps in shedding our colonial cloak and reinstating our glorious cultural heritage. “Our nation’s growing soft power is in its rich cultural fabric and its myriad manifestations in the form of art, music, dance, textiles among others. Let’s work together to strengthen it in this Amrit kaal and make culture a strong thread to weave Viksit Bharat’,” the minister added.
